About

Nestled at the foot of Amberley Mount, within South Down National Park, The Rook is a haven of tranquillity set amongst its own small ancient woodland. To the rear, the house overlooks Amberley Wildbrooks, an expansive 800 acre nature reserve, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest.

To say the surroundings are beautiful does not do them justice, and there is evidence of human habitation for several thousand years in the immediate area, with Bronze Age burial mounds, a Roman Villa and Amberley Castle to name but a few. Every season and every hour of the day and night transform the scenery into a different scape of beauty, all shared with the resident family of Rooks who have lived in the ancient Oak and Ash forest for centuries.

Within The Rook’s ancient woodland is The Hide, a cosy studio space perfect for writers, artists and thinkers really looking to immerse themselves in nature. In addition, the Hot tub spa, Forest Kitchen and Dining Space, and the Woodland Wellness Deck make outdoor living a pleasure throughout the year.

The Rook is a contemporary rural villa, designed and built by the owners, Damian and Jemma, to be an adaptable retreat space that works equally well for events that require peace and solitude, to those that call for collaboration or celebration. There’s a wealth of things to see and do locally, including Goodwood Races and the Festival of Speed, West Witterings Beach, Arundel Castle, Brighton & Hove and the many walks and activities the South Downs has to offer.
